"DAXIDAXI" is an iconic city cultural festival of great regional significance in Taiwan. With sponsorship from the Daxi Wood Art Ecomuseum, the event seeks to highlight the celebratory culture surrounding the birthday of Guan Shengdijun, fondly known as "Welcome June 24" among the residents of Daxi. The festivities kick off with "pre-celebration" activities taking place one month prior to the 24th day of the sixth lunar month. A contemporary design practice is adopted to recreate religious ceremonies and foster connections among local community groups, offering a modern spin on century-old traditions.
"百納,” or “Bai-na,” is the curatorial theme for this year's DAXIDAXI celebration, inspired by the early folk tradition of "百納被" (Baina quilt)- a patchwork quilt collectively created to symbolize blessings. It brings together Daxi's community associations and all of its people to join the divine, engage artists of various genres to collaborate to convey the synergic spirit and welcome the divine, where diverse beliefs and cultures converge to uphold in this contemporary festive carnival. Adding the spirited "GO!" behind the tagline, " Pray for Blessings Together," we hope to unite the festivities, incorporate tourism into the celebration, deepen local exchanges, and building a sustainable festival brand to pay tribute to the century-long legacy of “Reception on the 24th of June”

Participating in 'Welcoming June 24th' is something that many people in Daxi have been doing since childhood and continue throughout their lives.
Children who are not yet able to carry the generals themselves will use cardboard boxes painted with colors to create their own makeshift general costumes, imitating the footsteps of adults with great precision. During their childhood, they proudly wield drumsticks, beat the generals' drums, or play the cymbals, and some take on the role of the graceful "淨爐手" performers, dancing with elegance. As teenagers, they transform into the dashing " Shetou " captivating the attention of the whole crowd with their nimble and spirited steps. Growing into adults and becoming members of the local Shetou, they fearlessly take on the tasks of carrying the dragon, lion, and ink pot formations, as well as shouldering the palanquin for the deities. Some people devote themselves to the local association, honing their skills in welcoming the gods, while others, captivated by the festive atmosphere since childhood, have the celebration culture deeply imprinted in their genes.
Even if you are not from Daxi or part of the local Shetou, you still have the opportunity to experience the Shetou art troupe!
