The theme for Daxi-Daxi 2022, 'Justice and Honor', is drawn from the inscription above the Daxi Puji Temple worship pavilion. In Chinese, it also means against evil and disease. Written a century ago, it continues to be an inspiring message for modern generations.
In keeping with this theme, Daxi-Daxi teamed up with “Queen of Protection” singer Lotus Wang to co-produce this year's theme song, "紅紅OnOn", a song of prayer and dance to kick off the festival. For opening day, the festival team invited the City God along with two disease-fighting generals to be special guests featured in the Holy Parade with the Daxi gods and join the Lord Guan’s birthday party.
Aligning with the spirit of “Lord Guan Online!” in extending blessings across the globe, Daxi-Daxi disseminates positive energy to mobilize the entire city in a joint effort to ensure good weather, safety, and health for Taiwan.
The VIP guest City God arrives!
The classic program "Patrol with the Gods" is part of the opening ceremony every year. In 2022, the pilgrimage procession was joined by the "Little Shetou Alliance," formed by local elementary school students, and all the generals representing the cultural characteristics of Guan Gong's belief from the Three Kingdoms era were present. The highly anticipated divine sedan chair brought up the rear of the procession.
What makes this year special is the invitation extended to the City God of Hsinchu, with a history of over 250 years, to be a guest. Accompanying him are the lead heralds, flag bearers, drum corps, General Xie who uses fire sticks to eliminate viruses, and General Fan, who wields a tiger card with agile steps. They guard the sedan chair of the City God as it makes its first-ever journey through Daxi in celebration of the Christmas season together with Guan Gong.

2022 Upright Party!
「正氣 Pa!」is a new form of entertainment for the gods, performed by a team of social parade performers and local performing arts teams. This year, the traditional performance of the gods was integrated with 5G interactive technology, and the concept of the gods' pace was integrated throughout the show. From the various forms of step performance to the performance with contemporary dancers, the spirit of the gods' feet was interpreted in many aspects. The final piece is a new version of the Daxi Grand Jubilee Festival song, "紅紅On On", which turns the characteristics of the Daxi army into lyrics and invites the whole audience to sing and dance together!

Daxidaxi Thematic Song- OnOn
Wouldn't it be powerful if there was a song for everyone to sing and dance along with together at the festival in preparation for prayer? This was the idea behind this year's Daxidaxi theme song, "紅紅OnOn".
"紅紅OnOn'' was produced by award-winning musician Blaire Ko and sung by singer Lotus Wang. The catchy melody and chorus " Red face Red shirt Red horse OnOnOn On a roll” make you feel as though the red-faced Lord Guan is about to appear right before your eyes. The song also integrates Daxi's traditional general-inspired dance steps and movements into the choreography of the contemporary dance troupe Les Petites Choses Production, the musical composition of the band A Root. As a result, a completely new kind of festival song and dance for Daxi-Daxi is created, driving the energy and conveying the cultural spirit of the festival.

The「Gods and Goddesses」are the guardians of Guan Sheng Dijun, and have been protecting him for over a hundred years. The pace of the tour and the rituals of worship have been passed down from generation to generation. This year's Daxi Grand Jubilee Special Exhibition, "Dance of Virtue", uses motion pictures to record the posture of the 10 generals of Daxi, showing the dynamic performance and spiritual transformation of Daxi's head of the community when they put on the gods' equipment, and to feel the intangible connection between the gods and the people.

If you want to get to know more about the 「迎六月廿四」in Daxi, you have to mention the culture of she-tou and gods and generals, which has been passed down for more than a century. The people of Daxi are grateful for the blessing of the emperor and have formed a community to create the Three Kingdoms of Gods and Goddesses, who travel with the gods every year to receive and protect them. The gods are tall and majestic, with lifelike faces, and they are the idols of the children, but the load of 4 or 50 kg also tests the physical strength and endurance of the gods' feet.

Xing’an Society – Prince Guanping & Zhou Cang
Founded in the eighth year of the Taisho era (1919), the Xing'an Society is a Shetou founded by a group of local businessmen, and has now passed on to the fourth generation. The elders of the Soceity were even the key driving force behind the Daxi Cultural and Art Festival, the precursor of Daxi-Daxi. In addition, Xing'an Society also has the first pair of Holy Generals(Shenjiang) Prince Guan Ping and General Zhou Cang, who have accompanied Emperor Guan in the Puji Temple for over a hundred years, which can be said to be the treasure of the people of Daxi. The Holy Generals are a classic culmination of outstanding handicraft from head to toe, while still retaining its slender proportions, and is equipped with a Guan Saber, which is rarely seen today. With over a century of heritage, Xing'an Society upholds the style of calm composure, with a steady pace and little swing, and a majestic and powerful posture.

A Shetou where members have three greats (great height, great education, great looks), Chiatien Temple is dedicated to the pomotion of Holy Generals (Shenjiang) and Shetou culture, not only by opening a training center, but also by breaking boundaries and welcoming women to serve as Shenjiangjiao (Holy General Feet) crew and train together on processions. The Holy Generals walk with style, but the Shenjiangjiao are like unsung heroes. To serve the gods, not only must they train themselves physically and mentally, but they also require basic fundamentals like bending and stretching to properly play their roles. Once the Holy Generals make an appearance, "worshipping the temple becomes a stage". In Daxi the footwork of the Holy Generals’ "bowing in respect" is unique, and slightly different from one Society to another, but like the aura of a great general, the unchanging rule is that the steps are solid, resolute, and confident.

Le Bin Society - General Zhou Cang and Guan Feng (Guan Yinping)
In 1927, the Le Bin Society was founded in the rural and mountainous Tou-Liao area. In the early days of its establishment, the Society mainly played Beiguan music, but during the rapid industrialization and modernization of Taiwan, the Society gradually withered away. In the 1990s and 2000s, concerned individuals consolidated and restored the Society. The Society is now dedicated to diversified development; most of the members of the Le Bin Society have grown up with the Beiguan, dragon dancing, Shentong (spirit mediums), Holy Generals, and holy palanquins, and they love to exchange ideas with other Shetou. Another worthy mention is this Society features the only female Holy General in Daxi, General Guanfeng (Guan Yinping), with an all-female Shenjiangjiao crew playing the role. With her elegant stride yet not losing her imposing stature, she is an eye-catching highlight amongst the Three Kingdoms Holy Generals of Daxi.

Xieyi Society – Prince Guanping
The Xieyi Society, which is dedicated to the Master Qiaosheng (巧聖仙師, Qiaosheng Xianshi), is a centuries-old Shetou made up largely by a community of woodworkers. The four main Holy Generals(Shenjiang) in the Society are: Guan Ping, Zhou Cang, Wang Fu and Liao Hua. With a long history, and a weight that should not be underestimated, the military generals are emphasized over the civilian generals (the armor fabric is more sturdy), the Society takes pride in its lineup. The Society pursues the continuation of traditions, and classic roles remain unchanged; most of the members of the Society is dedicated to a single role (many members in other societies often play multiple Shenjiangjiao roles), the general will not overly sway in movement, while the military generals should be intimidating and majestic. What’s more, the pace of the walk are to be carefully timed and the sense of rhythm is also a must. The Xieyi Society is one of the few Daxi Shetous that will travel to other places for exchange. With its insistence on traditions and passing on heritage, the Holy Generals are set to march on for another 100 years.

The entire city is a hub of faith and celebration!
Following the annual thematic plans, designers from various mediums, multimedia designers from different fields, cross-disciplinary audiovisual creators, and visual and textual image workers were invited to view Daxi through their respective professional perspectives. They delved into traditional beliefs, folk customs, and religious rituals, absorbing the nourishment given by the local culture. Together, they focused on transforming the content and approach that needed to be reimagined, ultimately filling the entire mountain city with a celebratory atmosphere.
Daxi Daxi Archway: Showcasing the contemporary charm of tradition
In 2022, the design studio "Elephant Design" was tasked with creating a city-wide celebration atmosphere, it decided to search for the cultural symbols of Daxi's craftsmanship, and that was how designer Yuelin Pan began the journey to find artisans. With the recommendation of different artisans, we learned the meaning of the common totems of faith from the craftsmanship of paper artists. Mr. Dengxiang Lai, the Pili troupe's private instructor, was invited to contribute to the pagoda's elements by painting the landscape. Master Hongyi Zou, who is an expert in making lanterns, text design, and illustrations, was also invited to make bamboo lanterns. Finally, three Daxidaxi pagodas, each with its own characteristics, were set up in the old town of Daxi in the form of a flat roof and a spire, based on the different meanings of the "temple celebration" and the "traditional architecture" of Daxi. Every photo taken by the public in front of the pagoda shows the possibility of continuing the tradition in the contemporary world.

City-based game that transcends space and time
"Daxi in LINE" transformed Daxidaxi into a game level by collecting information about Daxi’s beliefs and folk customs and knowledge over a long period of time, creating an urban reality game brimming with captivating stories, knowledge and fun.
Through the widely-used communication app "LINE," the life of all the industries in Daxi who participated in the preparation of the festival was deconstructed and transformed into designated tasks and challenges. Visitors will receive tests and challenges from Holy Generals and Guan Sheng Dijun himself, learn about Daxi-exclusive auspicious words (1) at a dried bean curd store, learn about the centuries-old ritual cake culture (2) at a local bakery, and experience how it’s like to get lost, and asking for directions in the city by entering the alleys and temples of Daxi. Local shopkeepers also take on the role of game, allowing authentic Daxi sites and scenes as well as urban faith life to be integrated into the online game.
