In Daxi, the liveliest sounds of the afternoon often lead to the heart of the celebration.

Locals often say, "Every Daxi resident should carry a towering deity figure at least once in their lifetime." This saying reflects the deep connection between the people of Daxi and their century-old festival traditions.

Celebrate Daxi in the Afternoon begins at the Story House of the 24th Day of the Sixth Lunar Month. Guided by local cultural guide Chang Shu-Wu, participants will explore Daxi's distinctive community association traditions while discovering the town's history, faith, and cultural heritage.

This immersive experience features a site-specific promenade performance by Desire Theatre, where the streets themselves become the stage. Through four interconnected theatrical scenes, beginning with "Emperor Guan's Call to Gather," participants step into the role of community association apprentices, journeying through Daxi's neighborhoods, traditional organizations, and sacred spaces.

Along the way, you'll discover the often-overlooked people who make the festival possible, including the vital contributions of women who prepare ceremonial altars and provide behind-the-scenes support for the celebrations. At Furen Temple, hear the stories that connect Daxi's community associations with its coal mining history, ceremonial sedan chairs, and devotion to Emperor Guan. The journey concludes at Puji Temple, where you'll experience the vibrant atmosphere of Welcoming the 24th Day of the Sixth Lunar Month and discover why this celebration is affectionately known as Daxi's "second Lunar New Year."
