As night falls, Daxi reveals another side of itself—through its aromas.
The fragrance of banquet feasts prepared after temple ceremonies, the scent of handcrafted wood drifting through the old streets, the sweetness of traditional rice cakes and pastries, and the comforting flavors of local snacks and family kitchens together create the unmistakable taste of Daxi.
Taste Daxi After Dark extends the stage into Daxi's historic streets and alleyways, inviting you to discover the town through its culinary traditions. Led by local guide Chien Hsiu-Wen, the journey begins at Puji Temple, weaving through Caodianwei Living Room, Maze Alley, Furen Temple, Heping Old Street, and the Yuemei Historic Trail, offering a unique glimpse into Daxi's beloved "second Lunar New Year."
Along the route, you'll enjoy a series of site-specific theatrical performances by Desire Theatre before arriving at Yuangu Benshop, a beautifully preserved historic residence with more than 185 years of history. Here, participants are welcomed into the rarely accessible third courtyard of the family home to enjoy a specially prepared meal inspired by Daxi's home cooking traditions and fermented delicacies. Surrounded by the atmosphere of a traditional Taiwanese residence, you'll discover the rich flavors of Daxi's signature tofu cuisine while experiencing the warmth and hospitality that define the town's everyday life.
