The order in which procession teams appear brings the event to a crescendo. 31 of Daxi’s most prominent Shetou’s, special performances and generals of the Three Kingdoms will be there to dazzle!
The formation of Shetou’s representing “community businesses and industries” is the greatest highlight of the Daxi procession. During the Japanese colonial period, members of various industries in Old Street Daxi formed Shetou’s to participate in the procession; fast-forward to today, residents voluntarily host a celebratory birthday procession in appreciation of Holy Emperor Guan Yu and his protection, on the 24th of June on the lunar calendar. This year, in acknowledging the spirit of these industrial stalwarts, event organizer invited Mr. Zhang Yijun – an artist of international repute – to choreograph a performance that spotlights Shetou’s made up of students, businesses and local entrepreneurs, to reenact the fanfare of a hundred-year-old tradition that is still going strong.
DAXI DAXI Street Procession Highlights around Puji Temple are a culmination of efforts from local Shetou’s, students and members of the public, committed to upholding this tradition, and making it an immersive experience for all the participants. “The Reception of June 24” is literally the other lunar New Year celebration for the Daxi townspeople, and a vital gathering for the community Shetou’s, which are made up of different businesses and tradesmen. One can enjoy the extraordinarily distinctive Shetou’s found only in Daxi: “water buffalo formation,” “ox plough parade formation,” “ink art parade formation,” “the giant abacus formation,” etc.
